Sedia payung (= berpayung) sebelum hujan.

Takrif: Berjaga-jaga dulu sebelum mendapat sesuatu bencana.

"Sedia payung sebelum hujan" is a Malay proverb which translate as "Prepare umbrella before rain". It means "vigilance before calamity".


My late grandfather said (when he was threatened), as narrated by my uncle:

I die only once, and it is not decided by you (referring to the person who threatened him).

And he wasn't joking.

English translation of Sura al-Baqara, verse 28 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali:
How can ye reject the faith in Allah?- seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return. (28)

Terjemahan Bahasa Melayu bagi Surah al-Baqarah, ayat 28:
Bagaimana kamu tergamak kufur (mengingkari) Allah padahal kamu dahulunya mati (belum lahir), kemudian Ia menghidupkan kamu; setelah itu Ia mematikan kamu, kemudian Ia menghidupkan kamu pula (pada hari akhirat); akhirnya kamu dikembalikan kepadaNya (untuk diberi balasan bagi segala yang kamu kerjakan). (28)

"The 37th Muzakarah (Conference) of the Fatwa Committee National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia held on 23rd March 1995 has discussed on smoking from the perspective of Islam. The Committee has decided that smoking is prohibited in Islam because it is harmful."
